There is a lot of talk lately (hey Ginzi : ) about mechanical keyboards and different kind of switches they use. Basically, mechanical keyboards are much better (longer durability and better feel) then regular (gaming) keyboards, so some ppl might find them interesting. Also they come (most of them?) with NKRO, which is short for n-key rollover, which means u can press more then 3 keys at the same time without the computer not registering the press. Mechanical keyboard guide can be read here. |

Some examples. Also check Razer Black Widow. It uses Blue switches and don't have full NKRO implemented. But it is cheap considering it's mechanical keyboard. |

Anyone interested in some mechanical keyboard, I can recommend getting maybe the cheapest one there is: Steelseries 6Gv2. Costs around 70 Euros. It uses Cherry MX Black mechanical switches that are known to be stiff and have linear travel, which is perfect for gaming but not so much for typing (supposedly). But fear not, it is the best keyboard I have the chance to type on, so it's really not a problem. Only a preference (I slam my keyboards when I type, so no problems there ). Recommendation. |

I have one of those filcos Are they worth the money...dunno, maybe not Something you have to be aware before you buy such a keyboard. The keys are harder to press than the "normal" keyboards. But they feel good. Do they have some advantages over a normal keyboard? - You make less typing errors. <- Sounds stupid, but with the clear pressure point u know when you activitated a key even if its the wrong one - They register every keystroke you make as long as you use ps2 (=nkro). But to use this feature you would need both hands on your keyboard while playing and that shouldnt be the case - Very solid and its said that they will last forever Disadvantages? - you fingers become tired faster because of the resistance the keys offer - they are very heavy (over 1kg!!) - 95% of them dont have any multimedia-keys (no volume up and down etc...) i dont regret buying one, but it was definitely not worth that much money |

I must add not all mechnical keyboards have full NKRO implemented. For example, new Razer Black Widow, it has only anti-ghosting capability, which is more then enough, but still not NKRO ... When I just bought it, I also had some fatigue when typing in a long sessions. But now it's all gone and it's so good for typing as well 6Gv2 have multimedia keys: Play, Stop, Forward, Reverse, Mute (on F1- F6 I think). And this one is definitely not expensive as Filco ones, which can go up to 150 E or more :/ |
